Gerard M. Stegmaier is an attorney in the Reston, Virginia, office of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. His practice encompasses transactional, regulatory and litigation matters for emerging enterprises as well as Fortune 100 companies in the areas of e-commerce, privacy, intellectual property, and the First Amendment. He has counseled dozens of organizations on pressing issues relating to privacy and data protection including creation of compliance programs, due diligence in connection with acquisitions and public offerings, and responding to security incidents. He created one of the first law school courses directed at information privacy issues and has assisted the Virginia legislature for the past five years as it evaluated privacy and information security-related legislation.
